🚫

No Tipping

❗ IMPORTANT

Tipping is NOT done in Japan. It can actually be considered rude. Service charges are included in the price.

Call Staff with the Button

ℹ️ INFO

Use the call button on the table or say 'Sumimasen' (すみません) to call staff. Do NOT wave hands or shout.

Chopstick Rules

❗ IMPORTANT

Never stick chopsticks upright in rice (funeral custom). Never pass food chopstick-to-chopstick. Rest them on the chopstick holder.

🍜

Slurping is OK!

ℹ️ INFO

Slurping noodles is perfectly acceptable and shows enjoyment. Don't worry about making noise with ramen or soba.

💳

Pay at the Register

ℹ️ INFO

In most restaurants, you take your bill to the register at the exit to pay. Leaving cash on the table is not standard.

🥡

No Takeout from Some Restaurants

ℹ️ INFO

Many traditional restaurants do not offer takeout (doggy bags). Finish your meal at the restaurant.

🧹

Return Your Tray

ℹ️ INFO

At food courts and fast food restaurants, return your tray and sort your trash to the designated areas.
